I was going to keep quiet about this. But I'm spilling the beans about mobile marketing instead.

The reason? Well, just as social media (Facebook & Twitter mostly) has become mainstream, so too will mobile marketing within a very short space of time.

You might already be using it for your business. If so, just say "Pah!" and move along to more important things now.

If you're not yet using mobile marketing – which can include QR codes – then I reckon your business will be missing out big time, not too far in the future from now.

Oh, by the way, if you're still not using Twitter & Facebook (AND YouTube in my opinion), then you should also stop reading now. Get on the phone and give me a call, and I'll show you how you can create a simple Facebook fanpage for free.

So, then, what's all the fuss about QR codes?

Well, about 6 months back, I was passing an Estate Agents (or Real Estate 'shop', if you're not from the UK & reading this!).

And it had a QR code attached to the shop window.

So why would a place advertising Real Estate do that then?

Well, if you have a smartphone (and in N America approx. 29% or so people now have one1), you are – at least at the present time – 72% likely to respond to the presence of a QR code in a newspaper, shop window, or some other form of advertising, according to a recent QR usage survey2.

So what does that mean for you, if you run a business?

Obviously, a big opportunity.

With smart phones rapidly becoming the norm within the next few years, you are at a big advantage if you can position your business at the head of the game.

And I haven't even begun to talk about ways to combine QR codes, SMS short codes and email marketing into a seamless sales funnel yet.

And how about combining all THAT with your Facebook Fan Page, Twitter feed and YouTube channel?

You have got those, right?

If not, maybe we should have a conversation, (or Tweet or text!).

I'll be detailing more ideas that you can steal from this site soon, so stay tuned!

Lastly, if you want to make one of those pretty patterns above, visit the QR Code Generator page now.

What it Takes to be a Winner

You already know the score here: dedication, perseverance, persistance, consistency.

OK, end of blog post, let's just get on with it.

Obviously not.

There is, obviously, more to be said.

When I started up in business 3 years ago, I remember thinking: "This is gonna be like when I first started teaching: at first, there will be a steep learning curve as I seek to acquire new skills, I'm not expecting to become an overnight success. I'm in this for the long haul. I know that I will have to persist if I want to succeed."

So it is with everything of real value in life, and in one sense, this extends to the entire physical realm that we're part of.

Kneed The Dough (Not Need the Dough)

Everything has to be worked, like kneeding dough to make good bread.

Now I'm not saying that there aren't some good ways to speed up the process. There are, and I will allude to what I believe is one very important "success accelerator" in a minute.

And in fact, I believe that that key is the one which unlocks all the other doors that must be opened to enter into the success journey.

But before I explore the nature of that key, I want you to understand what I personally mean by success – what are the metrics I use to determine whether or not I'm pointing my life in the "right" direction?

Two key metrics for me are summarized in these two words:

  • Fulfilment
  • Fruitfulness

The "Superkey" for Success

If I have a sense of fulfilment in my life, and evidence of being fruitful – making a difference – then I believe that I'm travelling on the success journey. Then I'm winning.

So winning, success, is a journey into fulfilment and fruitfulness.

What about the destination then? If I believe success is a journey, where do I think I'm going?

That brings me neatly onto the "superkey" that unlocks the other doors to be passed through.

Simply put, in order to be a winner, I must have a strong sense, a vision, of why I am doing what I'm doing.

Confession time: when I fisrst started on this new journey of entrepreneurship, my far view was very blurred and foggy.

At the time, I simply want to have more time for my family, to have more fun. Actually, that could be enough as a why, but in my case, I also wanted to make a wider difference.

Defeating Death

You know, that "legacy thing". Many of us feel this way as a way of combatting own own mortality: it's a natural desire to want to leave a mark so that long after our DNA molecules have returned to the Earth, we somehow live on in the minds and on the lips of future generations.

And I'm not knocking that one iota. I feel the same way, and have done ever since those explorative teenage years when I began to emerge from the protective shell of self-centeredness.

Back to this "superkey": how do I find my why, how do I unlock that synergy within my being that will lead to harmony in my inner and outer life, and how do I know when I've reached that sense of purpose?

In other words, how do I judge when I'm winning?

Finding Life's "Why"

You've almost certainly guessed what I'm thinking by now, and if I've done my job well, the answer will be self-evident.

To know when I am winning, I must have a clear sense of my why – my aim.

"Why am I doing what am I doing?" is the question that will help me determine my focus, and then I will be able to see more clearly my target, so I can constantly refine and trim the direction of my life to achieve that fulfilment and fruitfulness that I desire.

Pretty easy then?

Obviously not.

Kneeding the dough requires a lot of energy, time and commitment.  BUT, if I have a clear sense of why I'm doing what I'm doing, and how I'm going to proceed along the journey, then that energy, time and commitment will seem much, much easier as life's curve-balls batter me into shape.

Let the Journey Continue…

In conclusion then, you, me, everybody, in fact, must discover our unique "why journey", and even more importantly, build and become part of a tribe of others who also want to discover a clearer sense of  that same journey together.

Everything else: the how and the what should stream from that greater sense of shared purpose.

Find your why.

Begin the journey.

Share that journey with others who become part of your tribe.

That's what it takes to become a winner.

Oh, and finally. notice that the dart board above has lots of holes in it.  Don't give up simply because you haven't hit your target yet. The process, the journey, is a fundamentally important part of the journey towards success.

The Five C's of Great Leadership

Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy lives on, many generations over since his life and untimely death.

In this brief article, I outline the 5 C’s of Great Leadership, adapted from the svelt read "The Next Generation Leader" by Andy Stanley, and inspired by a recent "Wakeup" call given by John F Jackson, VP of Leadership Development at CarbonCopyPRO.

Confidence

Confidence has its basis in an assurance of who you are – your identity. Martin Luther King Jr’s faith ensured that he knew who he was – his identity was thoroughly and completely wrapped up and made sure by his faith in God. You may not be in that same position – but every great leader (famous and infamous alike) has always had a sense of a higher calling on their life – some external reference point from which they were able to gauge themselves, that gave them a solid relational grounding with their own humanity and with others.

Courage

Courage is key to leadership – it’s the ability to take the risk when others would shrink back from taking the risk.

Compare for a minute King Saul’s response to his inauguration as king (he hid!!) with David the Shepherd boy’s fearless courage in the face of the real opposition in the character of Goliath, and you’ll see two distinct reactions to the call and challenge to be courageous in the face of great uncertainty.

Great leaders give courage in others as a consequence of their actions.

They can cause a hitherto timid and uncertain team to rally around their cause as a consequence of their inspiring courage.

Clarity

A great leader will develop and communicate clearly what their vision is to others to such an extent that they will foster trust in the team that they lead – even when the exact methods for achieving the goals set out in that vision may not yet be apparent.

Coaching

You own experience can only get you so far – being coachable and teachable are essential for a leader to grow in areas of their life that would otherwise remain dormant. Coaching is essential to real growth for any leader, and is often responsible for breakthrough developments in personal self-awareness and its consequent positive influence on the relationships involved.

Character

Character can only be developed by constant doing & reviewing in the context of the above four steps. Talent should never be seen as the master of a leader’s developing character, but should be subservient to the leader’s ability to harness and ring-fence what talent’s potential for over-reaching.

Click here to find out more about Social Media Marketing Machines

Social Media Marketing Machines is Mike Koenigs’ latest offering for anyone online wanting to take advantage of the social media explosion that is currently taking place.

Over the last 4 years, Mike Koenigs has been helping:

  • Small businesses
  • Authors
  • Experts
  • Speakers
  • Coaches
  • Entrepreneurs

…to get noticed and get results online.

His line-up includes celebreties like:

  • Paula Abdul
  • Tony Robbins
  • David Bach
  • Dan Kennedy
  • Brian Tracey
  • Harvey MacKay
  • (and many more)

One question which comes up almost incessantly from his clients is:

"Do you know someone who can manage my Social Media & Video Marketing & DO IT FOR ME?"

Mike’s speciality has been to AUTOMATE systems to help increase the efficiency with which his clients can make money using less time.

And Social Media Marketing Machines represents the pinnacle of this achievement.

According to Mike Koenigs, 46% of businesses don’t have a website or social media presence of any kind.

Here are some more striking statistics:

60% of businesses are planning on spending the same amount of money on advertisting as last year,

and 1 in 4 plan to spend even more – on ONLINE MARKETING.

    Specifically, SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING.

With thousands of customers in over 70 countries, Traffic Geyser’s automated content and media distribution system and tools are being used by many to great effect.

And Social Media Marketing Machines is designed to help people with any level of skill to generate income – either for their business, if they have one, or to help train up newbies to the point where they can earn a good supplemental income providing services for businesses.

Between 2004 and 2010, the job opportunities in the USA for College graduates has dropped dramatically from 75% around 40%, and that figure is still declining rapidly.

Social Media Marketing Machines represents a genuine opportunity for anyone – including unemployed or poorly paid graduates, to find a genuine source of income.

Reason? The growth in Social Media Marketing opportunites during this same period has grown by 300%.

This represents a real gap , a gap which Social Media Marketing Machines aims to plug, and not just for youngsters.

Ex-corporate employees who have real skills can also benefit from the training programme too.

Mike reveals the key secret in the presentation, that the real secret to making money through social media is through the follow-up, through the creation of your own TRIBE: regular, paying customers with whom you stay in touch through as many channels of communication as possible.

That’s what will sustain your businesses, whilst others fail.

Social media simply requires FOLLOW-UP, at least several times over.

    But here’s the problem:

50% of people who *do* follow-up, quit after the first follow-up.

Another 40% quit before the 5th contact.

And nearly 3 out of 5 leads are never even followed up at all.

But nearly 80% of sales happen on or after the 5th contact.

The reason for this, is that many businesses are still stuck in the old paradigm of chasing new leads for immediate sales… but this is 6 to 7 times more expensive than following up with someone who knows you, or has bought from you already.

According to Mike, last year, businesses that kept just 5% of their customers increased their profits by 95%.

What if you could be part of the solution to small businesses that are struggling (and failing) to keep up with the incredible and rapid expansion of social media?

Well, you can be. Mike Koenigs is currently releasing some videos showing you how it’s all done. Click on the image below to find out more.

I’ve just been playing around with a very cool new search engine called Blekko.

It’s currently in Beta, but it has a lot of very cool functionality that, although you can find within Google if you try looking hard enough, it’s very easy to use.

Namely, Blekko (rhymes with Gekko??!) allows you to create your own slashtags and save them.

Also, you can delete searches as spam…something that is appearing within Google, I agree.

But one thing that Blekko gives you very easily that Google doesn’t is a very accessible and comprehensive analytics functionality, so you can look at inbound links, compate websites’ SEO, and so on.

Now again, Google does offer this via its own Analytics engine, and I agree with you if you tell me that Google’s offering is more detailed and flexible, but you can’t do market research so quickly, and much of the analytics intelligence isn’t easily available to the end user in the way that it is with Blekko.

So from my perspective as a marketer, I’m pretty much sold out on Blekko being a terrific marketing tool that I can use to help me when I’m seeking to understand marketing.

Probably the best thing I like about Blekko, and it’s something that is touted quite strongly in the demo video on the company’s website, is that being able to actively search for just certain categories is a snitch with the new search engine.

Foe example, if I want information about the Nokia N900, I can specify:

n900 /tech – for technology information

OR

n900 /shopping – if I want to buy one

(Actually, I’m only guessing about the shopping slashtag, but it’s pretty certain that it’s going to be an option!).

In case you haven’t watch the video above, do make sure you do, as it overviews much of what I’ve written here.

So is Blekko yet another example of a technological game-changer? I think so.

What say you (comment below!)

FusionHQ Review

Today I'm going to let you know all about one of the coolest pieces of software I have ever seen for managing and building an online business,  called FusionHQ. It's perfect for non-techies and seasoned marketers because it requires no coding at all and is really simple to use.

The biggest challenge that typically confronts would-be marketers is the technical hurdle that must be successfully jumped even before an idea can even begin to be turned into something tangiable.

FusionHQ changes all that because it eliminates the need for programmers and designers (which is why I'm so excited about it). You can now do it yourself or get outsourced staff to do it – it's really that easy (I'll explain in more detail shortly).

I've got nothing against being able to roll up my sleeves and coding manually, but the time-saver that FusionHQ provides is incredible.

For the first time ever, I can actually *think* about where I'm going, and what I want to achieve, instead of getting bogged down in technical blind alleys.

So What is FusionHQ?

FusionHQ is a multi tool platform that allows anyone (even a non-techie) to build an unlimited amount of professional, fully customizable sales funnels, membership sites and affiliate programs without a single line of code.

No HTML, no PHP, not even FTP – it's all automated.

(BUT – and this is the coolest thing, you can *still* do all the tech-head stuff if you have those sort of skills).

Building Websites

FusionHQ uses drag and drop technology which is very intuitive. You can literally drag an optin form onto the page (fully coded). The same goes for videos, buy now buttons, images and much more. This is awesome especially since most other people only allow you to use a WYSIWYG text editor.

I love FusionHQ's split-testing feature because it's very simple to do: I can set up a split test in 20 seconds – all without a single line of code, and then analyse which page converts better…all within the FusionHQ interface.

When it comes to building your site, there are plenty of professional templates to choose from and you can create your own, or modify the existing range.

You can then build out your sales funnel by adding pages to the drag and drop process map. This is where you plan out your upsells, downsells, exit popups, etc. FusionHQ codes it all together automatically. Perfect for non-techies and advanced marketers.

My favourite part of FusionHQ is the membership site builder. It makes it so simple to build an entire membership site in no time at all.

FusionHQ allows you to manage your members, give unlimited membership levels, and build your membership site using the drag and drop technology (again no coding at all).

There are a lot of membership scripts out there that aren't real membership sites.

FusionHQ membership sites…

* Give everyone a unique username and password
* Only allow one person to login at once per username (preventing people from sharing login details)
* Drip feeds content (great for making money with membership sites)
* If someone refunds they will actually lose access to the membership (unlike many other membership scripts out there)

Hosted on Your own Server:

Once you're happy with your site, FusionHQ allows you to upload your website to your own hosting or FusionHQ's cloud Hosting. With the FusionHQ cloud hosting you don't even need to worry about changing DNS settings – it's nice for non-techies who don't know how to do that kind of thing.

Note: FusionHQ is not one of those platforms that force you to upload your website on THEIR server. Platforms that do this usually take your website should you decide to move on to something else (it doesn't make good business sense).

FusionHQ isn't like that, you can upload your files to your own hosting and you can even export your site to a zip file if needed. Giving you all the control. As a retired Linux geek, that's music to my ears 🙂

Payment Gateways

If you intend to sell anything via your website, you're going to need a way to process payments.

Currently FusionHQ easily integrates with Clickbank, Paypal, 1shoppingcart, 2checkout and Authorize.net (with more on the way in future upgrades).

Autoresponders

FusionHQ has it's own in-house autoresponder, making it more of a fully integrated system for online business owners.

Obviously you don't have to use it if you don't want to. You can continue using your own autoresponder. For some of my existing campaigns, I've carried on using Aweber, but for my main membership website, Web Video Explosion, it made much more sense to use the built-in autoresponder, as it allows for easy integration with the Affiliate setup.

FusionHQ integrates with all the other popular autoresponders (as well as Aweber), Getresponse and iContact.

Go2webinar integration

Webinars are a great way to make money provided you have something to sell. Well FusionHQ allows you to set up custom squeeze pages that register people to multiple webinars AND a list simultaneously from one form.

This is very powerful and will help you get more people on your webinars, which means more money. It's also a great way to build your list because they sign up for the webinar(s) and your list at the same time – all from one form.

When I first started using FusionHQ, I didn't spot this feature, and only discovered after we ran our first webinar for Web Video Explosion that it was a pretty much 1-click process.

Affiliate Program

You can build an affiliate program without any coding. Fill out your settings, create your tools and you're ready to recruit affiliates. The affiliate software has double layers of protection – IP tracking AND cookie tracking – which ensures accurate stats for affiliates.

FusionHQ's affiliate software enables you to manage affiliates, create custom commissions, custom tools for specific affiliates, etc.

It can also be used to integrate with Clickbank much in the same way as EasyClickMate.

Conclusion

FusionHQ is an impressive multi tool platform that saves a ton of time and money. If you're serious about building an online business then this is a platform that I'd highly recommend, and I'm using it as the platform of choice for delivering my forthcomging Web Video Explosion Training Program.

I love its drag and drop simplicity, while being fully customizable and professional at the same time. It's an all-in-one business platform that integrates with popular softwares without a single line of code.

I didn't think software like this would be possible (especially doing all this without a single line of code) – but I'm happy to say I've been proved wrong. There are a few platforms on the market though FusionHQ is definitely way a head of the game.

FusionHQ have a complete team behind them and have big plans for the future. As a member of FusionHQ you get all future updates for free – which is great.

FusionHQ has now made the technical side of managing and building an online business simple and I applaud them for that. This is definitely something that is now an essential core part of my business.

No need to waste thousands of dollar on programmers – not to mention all the time it takes trying to explain what you want.

If you're a non-techie, this is dream come true – so many people get stuck on the technical stuff (or, in my case, badly side-tracked!!)).

Now you can focus more on the marketing and getting the money coming in.

Dez.

I’ve just been on a leadership development teleseminar with Jay Kubassek, and during the call, he quoted the often-mentioned statement, attributed to Thomas Edison:

"Genius is 99% perspiration & 1% Inspiration".

Jay outlined the key difference between those who create sustainable success , and those who don’t. In other words, what is the missing 1% – the ‘X Factor’?

Jay has been working hard over the last 4 years to create an incredible community of entrepreneurs, which now includes members in over 190 countries around the globe. And it was only recently, he admits, that he really found that missing 1%, that intangible ingredient that lies behind his motivation to work so hard.

That missing 1%, the almost magic ingredient, is to be found only when you can answer the question to "What is your Why?, in other words, why do you do what you do…?

This goes deeper than cashflow, holidays or wealth, and is a fundamental question we each need to ask ourselves.

Watch me talk about this more, below:

Welcome to the Mad Web Scientist!

YouTube’s First EVER Video: Me at the Zoo

Jawed Karim’s impressive geek skills also include being the main coder for Paypal’s real-time anti-fraud protection algorithms, so he’s a prety clever guy 🙂 & he now runs Youniversity Ventures.

So what was it that has made Jared SO incredibly successful? Well, you might think that’s a bit of a daft question, as we all already KNOW that the answers is "YouTube!".

But that’s the power of hindsight. Prior to 2005, YouTube didn’t exist.

And then Jared had a killer idea, which led to what he calls a killer application:

(this is taken from his October 2006 presentation here: http://www.youtube.com/user/jawed#p/u/3/nssfmTo7SZg )

Now, I would dare to go a little step further with this definition, and with my marketing hat on, say this:

A Killer Product or Service is one which is so desirable in its benefits to the end-user, that

it becomes the de facto tool or system that everybody leaps on without any hesitation,

because its real and perceived value is so obvious to all.

Now, I’ve been riding the Web Waves for a couple of years now, and prior to that I was involved in some pretty geeky projects, so I reckon I know when I can spot such a killer application.

Last week, I came across one, after chatting to a new friend on Facebook. I was looking for a smarter alternative to Goto Webinars, that leveraged video as a core part of the offering, but also at an affordable price.

Well, rather than going into lots of details here (because this is about YouTube after all), I want you to find out yourself, by watching the video below.

If you are involved in any kind of marketing, and you recognise how leveraging video is key to being able to connect with clients and prospects,  then sign up to get instant access to the free 22 minute presentation.

Welcome to the Mad Web Scientist!

Here’s a recent example of a video embedded with Easy Video Player 2:

The actual video is on the Web Video Explosion website, which is running FusionHQ – a very powerful marketing platform which allows me to generate websites, sales funnels, "launch trees", affiliate campaigns, and much more.

If you’re serious about online marketing, then both Easy Video Player 2 & FusionHQ will allow you to produce quality online content very quickly.

I’ll be showing you more about both these tools over the next few weeks, giving you a "sneak peak" on how they are used, and how to build sales & marketing funnels using them both.

Dez.

(PS The links to FusionHQ & Easy Video Player 2 are affiliate links, so I will get paid money if you subsequently buy either of the products through my links. I highly recommend both, and am using both on my online marketing).

Welcome to the Mad Web Scientist!

Robert Kiyosaki “Rich Dad” Advisor Michael Maloney has many years’ experience in understanding how the economies of the world have historically flocked to silver & gold in times of great economic uncertainty, and the current global meltdown is unarguably the most uncertain economic cycle humanity has ever been in, for the simple reason that, as never before, we are so interdependently connect, through technology (read: the internet).

So when Mike Maloney starts offering to throw silver around just because he wants to drive traffic to his website you know that times are getting pretty rough. Or about to.

The next massive shift, according to Robert Kiyosaki (and he’s been right so far), is in 2012, when lots of US-based new retirees cash-in on their non-existent 401k’s subsequent to some major government policy change. I can’t remember the exact details, but just Googling "Robert Kiyosaki 2012" might return some interesting results 🙂

Anyway, I’d like some of Mike’s silver – it would prove useful to some charities I’m wanting to expand my support to, so I’ll be pumping out  Mike’s videos over the next few weeks.

And if you really want to know what’s happening with the economies of the world right now, you should listen to this former Wall St investor who knows what’s happening on the inside: Visit The Wealth Transfer Conspiracy website for more details. (Full disclosure: That’s an affiliate link by the way, so I will get renumeration of you buy anything from there – the 20 minute video he talks about is free, however, and is an eye-opener).
