Have You Got Six Appeal?

For anyone that’s been around for a while, you have almost certainly heard of the legendary rise of Gary Vaynerchuk. If not, just use Google.com or even better – search.twitter.com.

Gary definitely has what I call SIX APPEAL.

So, what is Six Appeal, and why would you want it?

Well, here it is in a nutshell:

Six Essential Qualities That Are Guaranteed to Get Others to Follow You And Buy Your Stuff.

So, what are these six essential qualities?

You know the first three:

  • Know you
  • Like you
  • Trust you

It’s almost become a mantra that personal branding mentors, network marketers and home business owners soothingly send themselves to sleep with every night, and wake up feeling refreshed in the morning.

Seriously a minute: we all know there is nothing new in the KLT formula above. It’s not new to the world of direct sales or marketing. It’s fundamental to the way societies hold together: everyone wants to be known, liked and trusted, and/or be part of a community which reflects and shares those values.

What about the other three keys to Six Appeal?

As usual, someone (OK, it was me) always likes to come up with a simple "It’s as easy as A,B,C" system to help you remember this sort of thing, so here it is:

People want to follow others who are:

  • Able
  • Bold
  • Clever

Now before you shoot me down here, let me qualify where I’m going:

Able – someone who has a high degree of skill or experience in a particular field, in other words an expert. Gary clearly knew a lot about wine when he launched his web-business. Score 1.

Bold – someone who is not afraid to take risks and try things others have never done before. http://tv.winelibrary.com was an unheard of and untried phenomenon before Gary got there. Score 2.

Clever – someone who is able to creatively put together ideas and thoughts to make something new, brilliant, or incredibly useful. Or some combination of all of those, or more. Score 3 Gary.

So, by my definition, Gary Vaynerchuk scores 6/6. So he DEFINITELY has Six Appeal.

Hey – but what if you don’t like him? Well, not everybody like his raw language. But that’s who he is. Raw. Uncut. Not afraid. Gary. Himself.

So, if you’re an aspiring entrepreneur who is trying to carve out a niche, gain a following, become a leader in your own right, take a leaf ouf of WineLibrary.tv ‘s founder.

Don’t just be liked, known and trusted. Add the other three ingredients to the mix, because when you have something of great value to others, you’ll have the A, B, C as well as the K, L, T.

Right, I’m off to study Hungarian basket weaving like nobody has ever done it before. <joke>.

Admission: I started this article purely as a way of being able to record my thoughts online from my mobile phone – this wasn’t aimed as being a blog post to start with 🙂

Without further ado, here’s what is going through my mind at the moment: How do I become more productive in my business with my daily routine?

Here’s the plan: – Organise my most productive hours (before everyone else in my family is awake) to focus on the key traffic-generation strategies that are essential tol my online business. – Use less productive times to exercise, eat, rest, relax, communicate, do admin tasks such as cashflow analysis, filing, emails.

Eban Pagan & other "productive experts" reckon we have at most 2-4 hours/day when we can create the most effective results.

For me, the ideal time is between 5-7am, but it will obviously be different for you.

So, in my case, getting high quality leads for my business is my top priority every day, and I know I must make good use of those first two hours of the day to grow and maintain traffic generation strategies which work in my sector.

I’ll be sharing more about what I do over the next few posts, so stay tuned. Dez.

If you’ve followed my progress on YouTube last year, you will be aware that I did a 90 day video series on internet marketing.

At the start of this new decade, I’m announcing a new challenge I’m setting myself:

Complete one hundred articles (using Ezine Articles) in one hundred days.

Easy? Perhaps for some, but consider my circumstances:

  • Family: lovely wife & 3 lovely children
  • Work: Nearly full time Physics Teacher
  • Two Businesses: Several clients for my web development business, very active online marketer for one of the top direct internet marketing education companies, and I provide marketing services for businesses in my locality

Obviously I don’t try and work all these at the same.

But I’ve had to give up a lot of things to be able to work the above in harmony.

Here’s how extreme it is:

  • I don’t have a TV
  • I rarely keep up with the news
  • I only check emails once/day, if that (maybe that’s a luxury!)
  • My only hobbies are photography and driving a car

If that sounds hard, yes, sometimes it is. But I have a rock solid vision for my family and our future.

True success always requires consistent discipline and hard work. There are no real short cuts.

So, writing one hundred articles in a hundred days isn’t going to be easy. I will have to sacrifice some sleep.

But I know the benefits to my online business will be huge. And that feeds into my vision like nobody’s business.

So, why not star the year with a S.M.A.R.T. goal which will propel your life, (and your  business if you have one) to a completely new level?

Oh, by the way: here’s another added spin-off when you set such challenges:

IT BECOMES MUCH, MUCH EASIER TO TAKE ON SUBSEQUENT CHALLENGES IN THE FUTURE.

I make no apologies for shouting this. I just want the message to be loud and clear.

Happy New Year, Happy New Decade. Make this *the* year that makes a positive difference to you, to those who you care about, and to those who aren’t  in such a privileged position as yourself, whatever and wherever that may be.

The 5 B's….

If you’ve ever wanted to know what characteristics are important for leadership, here they are – summarized with 5 B’s. If you read the list without being challenged – contact me & tell me your secret. I know I find at least 2 of them tricky to maintain, so maybe you can help.

Tongue-in-cheek comments aside, here are the 5 B’s:

1)Be Forgiving
2)Be honest
3)Be a person of integrity
4)Be self-expressed
5)Be Loving

If you strive to fulfill all 5 of these traits in whatever role you have as a leader, undoubtedly you’ll end up with a following, not just of interested by-standers, but of committed and aspiring leaders who will want to replicate what you have achieved in your own life.

So, as 2010 is now upon us all, use the 5 B’s above to guide you as you steer your way through the new decade. And do comment below to let me know which of the 5 B’s you have made significant progress in during 2009, and what you want to see for 2010.

Things Ain't always What They Seem…

Here’s a funny story.

I was staying in an inn with family for a short trip to see relatives recently. We got to our room late at night, so in the morning I was dog tired from the journey and lack of sleep.

So I decided to take a shower to get the blood flowing again. I pulled back the shower curtain and noticed that it was an electric shower, with it’s own heater.

Now I don’t know about you, but when I see electric showers, I always groan inwardly: “Aw no, it’s gonna be a dribble…that ain’t gonna wake me up!”.

From the title of this post, you’ve probably already guessed where I’m heading with what I’m about to tell you next.

I was wrong. Dead wrong. In fact, I was so completely wrong, I ended up laughing to myself as I got blasted by the jet of hot water that blasted my tired head.

It was one of the best showers I’ve had.

Here’s the funniest thing though: the following place we stayed, also in the same chain of inns, the shower looked the part. Big cubicle. Large shower head. But the water just dribbled out.

I know you’re thinking that I must be exaggerating here. But I’m not. It was as if the message was being drummed home to me like nobody’s business:

Don’t be fooled by how things look. 99 times out of a hundred you may be right. But you don’t know that your past experience will be a good enough guide for what happens today.

So don’t use past experience to pre-judge the way things will pan out with what’s happening to you now. Otherwise you’ll miss out on possibly what could be pretty amazing.

On November 19 2009,I joined around 1500 people from all over the globe in the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas, to meet with other entrepreneurs and receive training from internet marketers at the top of the industry.

Jay Kubassek’s story is the original reason I was there – watch highlights of his stirring talk and call to action below.

To my left, Jay Kubassek, and on my right, Liz & Aaron Parkinson, at the Las Vegas MME event 2009. Liz had been on stage sharing along with another spouse (Michael Force‘s wife, Delilah) about her side of the business equation, being married to Aaron…it was pretty powerful, raw & honest stuff. Sometimes people forget that behind all the pezzazz and glamour of an event like this is a long history of struggle, pain, and unbelievable hard, sustained effort.

Most businesses fail for a small cluster of reasons – but two of them are lack of team and lack of vision. Jay, Liz, Aaron, and many of the original team they spearhead at the Vegas event have huge vision, fantastic team, and outstanding leadership.

I’ve been involved in entrepreneurial activity for long enough to know the real thing, and I bet both Jay and Aaron have shared many tears with one another as well as the smiles. These guys are outstanding in their vision, passion and commitment.

Want to know how to build a recession-proof Business online?

I admit the intro to the video is a bit on the mad side, but the point is that many people are burying their head in the sand, believing the madness that the economy will somehow emerge out of this period of instability into something resembling the former carefree days many employees took for granted.

Most financial analysts worth their salt know that this just isn’t the case.

So what are you going to do?

For starters, if like me you’ve suffered from Lone Ranger syndrome in your life or business, you need to buddy up – to network – with people who have learned the skills of true networking and, in the case of business, entrepreneurship.

As this is primarily a marketing blog, it’d be a fair guess that you might have more than a passing interest in how to make money online.

I tried many methods to generate an income, but let me be clear about this: very, very rarely can anyone grow a successful business on their own, offline or online.

I dread to think how expensive that lesson was for me, but now that I’m part of a team of entrepreneurs who know what the stakes are, I understand that being a team player isn’t just a nice idea, it’s a must.

If you’re running a business (offline or online), you’re probably only too aware of the power of having a great team, and how it can transform situations, financially and personally.

So how do you find a great team?

Great teams only come about by great leadership, and great leaders are only great leaders if they know how to serve their team. All the most inspiring and memorable leaders have demonstrated this quality throughout the ages.

Why do I bother talking about this?

Well, I’m looking to partner with people who inspire others, and who have higher goals in life than to just make money online. Money, after all, only has any meaning in the context of relationships and how it is used to benefit those relationships. Any attempt to elevate it beyond that status risks the forfeiting of what really counts in life.

If you don’t want to be a Lone Ranger, but you’re looking to walk this incredible journey of life with others who have already trod the rocky tracks ahead, sign up in the opt-in box above, and I look forward to getting to know you in person.

Gold price July to November 2009

source: Live Gold Price (6 November 2009)

Mike Maloney has some great videos on his site educating any potential investor about gold, and its increased demand as a surrogate currency in times of economic instability. As well as being an investor himself, Mike has taken it upon himself to study the history of gold price fluctuations, and he is quick to point out that, for over 3,000 years, any time an empire’s stability was in some way under threat, people would use gold as an unaffected investment.

If you look at the graph above, I’ve highlighted the fact that the upward trend in the data from July of 2009 until November 2009 shows increasingly large upward oscillations, as if the price is gathering significant momentum. Mike believes the price of gold has a long way to go before it plateau’s out at a new all-time high. If he’s correct, then it’s time to sell shares and swap them for gold.

I’ve been following the price of gold over the last couple of months, and notice that it seems pretty much impervious to the chaotic, unstable world of stocks and shares.

So maybe it’s time to think about changing the way we invest? What do you think?

How do you Measure Success?

I’ve recently been reading a very practical book entitled The Psychology of Success , by Judith Leary-Joyce.

I got quite enthusiastic about the book when I read the subtitle: Secrets of Serial Achievers, and what Judith has written is at the same time inspirational, and very practical -especially in the practical exercises liberally scattered throughout the book.

My only criticism (and perhaps that’s a back-handed compliment to her thoroughness) is that it’s sometimes a bit too systematic, with checklists and score-cards appearing in several places.

But the book is unequivocally endorsed by the head of HR of two large corporations (one of which is T-Mobile) and a psychiatrist, and it does contain some very unique angles. Such as:

  • Understanding your personal gravity
  • Discovering your life alignment curve

Whilst some skeptics might dismiss this as dressing up simple ideas into something bigger, just to sell a book, I’ve found lots of nuggets in the book so far, and I’ve been doing series of videos on YouTube which you can watch over on my YouTube channel, or just click on the videos below (if the videos aren’t there when you read this post, it’s because I’ve not yet dug for the specific urls as I’m writing this blog entry on my phone).

With the above caveats in mind (and who knows, Judith might not be analytical enough for you, if you’ve ever done full-blown Myers-Briggs tests or similar), I do endorse the book as one to add to your library.

At the time of writing, it’s very much a work in progress -but let me know if you find it useful.

Lastly, in case you haven’t yet realised, I joined a new business venture back in August of this year, which I see very much a culmination of the internet marketing I’ve been involved in since starting up online in April 2008.

If you’re wanting to gain real success in your business venture online, or you’re looking to join a top online community of entrepreneurs, I unreservedly endorse the company I’m partnered with.

The story of Jay Kubassek & Aaron Parkinson is one worth knowing: how they came from relative obscurity, to creating one of the most dynamic online internet marketing communities within the space of a couple of years. Jay’s background as a farmer & then car muffler salesman, and Aaron’s as a bouncer -are testimony that anyone with enough desire for change can escape the slavery of modern poverty that so many are becoming increasingly entrapped by.

Did it cost them lots of time and money? You bet. And probably lots of sleepless nights as they broke free from the chains that hold so many back from becoming truly financially independent.

What’s special about their story is that instead of just making themselves wealthy (which they will be quick to tell you would’ve been far less hassle and a lot easier), they decided to form a community where anyone who wants to have the opportunity to do what they have done, can tap into a nurturing training environment which provides an unmatched resource-base alongside teachers who are in the top 1% income bracket online.

Both Jay & Aaron continue to market their business themselves, so they know how things change as the changes happen.

Above all this, they knew that traveling this journey together has made all the difference. Since joining in with what they’ve created, I know exactly what they mean, and exactly what to do to make it happen in my life as I walk with like-minded entrepreneurs into the biggest opportunity in the history of the post-technology age.

As Aaron himself points out: if two teenagers can make a living online, anyone can. It just takes guts and persistance.

If you’ve got the guts and a vision for life that is bigger than you, click on the image below & signup to find out what Jay & Aaron have created.
