Before I tell you the answer to this question, a story:

For about a week, my wireless access at home has been behaving very strangely. I normally browse the web via wireless when at home – it’s just way quicker: videos load faster, workflow is better, I don’t have to think about monthly 3G data caps…you know all the usual reasons.

Anyway, for as long as I can remember, my wireless connection has been fine. Then about a week ago, I got a new mobile phone, and could I connect to the web via my wireless route? Nope.

So I tried my old phone. Same problem.

Since then, I’ve tried everything. (Well, nearly everything 🙂 ).

I fiddled with the settings on my router. I repositioned the router’s aerial. I’ll spare you the rest of the details, as it’s all way too nerdy for this post (& we’ve both got better things to do with our lives after all).

And then, tonight, I got it working.

It was a simple solution: a newly-installed wireless TV repeater I’d set up around the house was having a fight with my wireless router. And the router was losing.

So how did I figure it all out, and why didn’t I give up?

Second answer first: I didn’t give up, because I’d seen it working before (this is the second-most important lesson of this blog post).

And finally, then, how did I figure it?

Simple: I tested everything. And that’s the same most overlooked thing that it’s so easy not to bother with in marketing.

Online marketing isn’t successful so much because of great design, buzz, traffic or brand. Though, all these things are required.

The bottom line is, are you testing what you are doing?

I know, it’s not glamorous. Tell me about it.

Staring at numbers, looking at traffic going from one part of your sales funnel to another…these, and more, aren’t exactly the sexist things to be focusing on in your marketing.

But if you do focus on getting this bit right, then you can move way ahead of the competition.

Remember, as Avinash Kaushik says (read "Web Analytics, an Hour a Day"), so aptly says to the PR/advertising execs:

"Your opinion doesn’t matter. What the data says does." (my paraphrase).

So there you go.

Always Be Closing?

Yes.

But also:

Always Be Testing.

The Google Switch Report

[display_podcast]

The Google Switch Report outlines how to develop an integrated approach to traffic creation, effective lead generation and the creation of raving fans for you business.

Perhaps for the first time, we have mapped out before us a systematic approach to the whole methodology of internet-based traffic generation using different and disparate web technologies.

Some of these technologies (example: press releases) have been around for a long time, but how your business can effectively mesh them all together hasn't always been clear.

Well, now it is.

Jim Yaghi and David Schwind, the authors of the Google Switch, show how you can develop a joined-up approach to lead generation, with constant new torrents of traffic coming from pay per click, viral social media, forums, video and more.

These two experienced marketers not only tell you about the different technologies they use, but also how to apply them effectively, to maximize their impact.

The 136 page report is split into two distinct halves:

Part 1 gives a very honest and real account of both Jim Yaghi and David Schwind's backgrounds before they became successful online. In this section of the report you will learn things like:

why sitting in a cafe all day long led to a real breakthrough in Jim's business
how David went from bizop to bizop chasing the dream life, until one day he discovered the real game-changer

and much more, some of which is helter-skelter stuff.

Part 2 then dives into how David & Jim use the internet to get floods of targetted traffic, and includes top tips on the best ways to help build your reputation online using nothing but your mailing list and creativity in your writing.

In the first section, David explains how he combined Google Adwords, a press release, and his existing mailing list, to get 82 leads in a single day.

The rest of the report shows the incredible ways both David & Jim put together normally disconnected traffic generation techniques, and this is where the real power of The Google Switch Report comes into play.

Every section ends with a useful summary, and with this report alone, if you integrate their strategies into your marketing, you should begin to see a significant growth in your leads and traffic within a short space of time.

The last couple of pages of The Google Switch are a soft sell for Jim Yaghi and David Schwind's new course, entitled PPC Supremacy, where they will obviously be fleshing out the strategies they outline in The Google Switch, and reveal some of their most closely guarded secrets about effective lead generation using both paid and free traffic methods.

I highly recommend The Google Switch, even if you're an experienced online marketer, as it will undoubtedly teach you both new ways to increase the leads coming into your sales funnel and how to convert those leads into paying customers and fans.

Recently, a well known internet marketer (Eric Holmlund), was contacted by a disgruntled customer, who had been ripped off by someone Eric had previously recommended.

Eric’s response was an example to the whole internet marketing community.

In essence, Eric brought the difficult situation right out into the open to sound out his subscribers (myself included), and to highlight some of the potential problems that affiliate marketer can encounter. Eric asked the internet marketing community what they thought would be the best course of action: should he compensate the client who was ripped off, or not? Was Eric responsible for someone else’s bad business practises (ie the copywriter who didn’t deliver) or not?

You can read final outcome of the whole shenanigans here. All I will say, is that Eric Holmlund is a top-rate internert marketer who I respect and endorse. If you want to know anything about online marketing, then do visit his blog at http://EricsTips.com.

It’s funny how things go around & come around; back in January 2009 I’d just started learning how to make money online with affiliate marketing, and I was excited about the possibilities of using the internet to earn money whilst I sleep, so that I could focus more time on my family.

I have to be very honest – I struggled. The biggest struggle was staying focused enough on one thing – there were, and now even more so, so many opportunities out there to earn a decent income, it was hard to settle on one thing.

I took a high end course on affiliate marketing, which to this day still contains a huge amount of valuable information, even though Google has changed it’s colors more times than a chameleon in the time between then and now.

Which brings me to now. You see, I’m still doing affiliate marketing, but I’m doing it incidentally, rather than focusing on it full time. At the moment, I’ve got other irons in the fire which can also generate income, but whatever business method I choose on the internet, I know that the best business model is one in which I do something once, and get paid over and over again thereafter.

In one sense, I’ve come full circle in terms of the methods I’m using to generate income online. As a business owner of a marketing company myself, I know how challenging it can be to generate consistent cashflow throught the financial year, and affiliate marketing provides me with a very helpful residual income to help pay for my ongoing business expenses.

So, how does affiliate marketing work? The nearest analogy I have, is when an actor or author gains ongoing royalties, or commissions based on work that they have created.

The methods used to generate income are surprisingly easy to do (and don’t require as much in the way of technical or computer skills as you might think).

The reason for the post title is that I’ve just stumbled across two young guys – who were teenagers when they made their first 6 figures online (in less than a year). They were both struggling undergrads (in fact, it seems like one was a college drop-out).

If you want to find out more about their story, click on the information below.

And in case you’re wondering, the links in this article are affiliate links for their product. If you’re new to the idea of affiliate marketing as a viable business model, and you’re considering ways to earn new income streams using the internet, without hesitation I would encourage you to consider becoming an affiliate as a way of getting started.

If you’re a regular reader of this Blog, you’ll know that I regularly comment on topics such as marketing, the world economy, finance – anything which affects offline & online business.

What I haven’t told you much about is the business I’m involved with.

Mostly because I want to share the wider picture, not just what I’m doing.

But let me be straight for a second: I’m online to make money.

“And what” you might ask, “are you selling?”.

Well, it’s simple: I’m selling information. Specifically, two types of information.

One will help any offline business gain the effective marketing skills to get new clients, so it can grow despite the recession.

The other is information which will help any business to gain the skills it needs to manage its own financial investments. Think: “how to be your own fund manager, investment advisor, and wealth creation expert”.

Why did I choose these niches and not others?

Well, it was unintentional. Originally I was just looking for a way to earn money online. And I found the community that I’m now part of, which has enabled me to gain a whole gamut of skills apart from “just” online marketing.

As it turns out, there are a lot – and I mean a huge number – of people out there who are wanting to learn these skills. These are the sorts of people who are self-motivated, focused individuals who  for whatever reason, aren’t satisfied with the way things are.

Let me throw a number at you for a second. I recently heard Eban Pagan teaching (online, of course!) about just how big the information industry has now become.

Here are some staggering statistics he gave:

  • E-Book growth grew by 71% last year (Ipad & Kindle country!)
  • Self-help is an over $13 billion/year industry
  • The world-wide information market is an estimated $400 billion/year growth industry
  • The personal & corporate coaching industry alone is estimated at over $100billion/year

…so you can see, there is a thriving, exploding market mushrooming right under your nose.

Whilst traditional business models are floundering with narrow profit margins, high overheads, and no time leverage, much of the above operates 24/7 (yes, even whilst you’re asleep)  in hundreds of countries, simultaneously.

So if you are looking for a way out of the rat-race, or just looking for a way to leverage your time (so you can do  the things that you really want to do, when you want to do them), there is simply no better time to learn the skills required to become a master of online business, in one, or more niches.

Now I’m not saying you can become rich overnight (it certainly hasn’t happened that way for me, at least) – what I can say for certain is that once you have these skills, you can really begin to leverage them, and get paid, even when you sleep.

If that’s not an attractive business model, I don’t know what is.

The Global Economic Meltdown?

New York Stock Exchange – City fears of ‘Great Depression Mark II’ Photo: REUTERS

Edmund Conway, the Times Newspaper Economics Editor, reported recently that leading City experts have started raising the prospect of “Great Depression II” amid worries that the European economic crisis could trigger a deeper bout of chaos.

Show Me How I Can Learn Essential Financial Skills In This Economic Meltdown

// < ![CDATA[
//

Let me ask you this: do you really believe that the so-called experts have a clue what will happen next? I believe they would be quick to say a resounding “no”. In fact, all they, and anyone else, can really say is that the economies of the world are going through an incredible and unstable shift.

No longer can we make the assumptions that once under-girded economic theory and national fiscal policy.

Today, the non-linear nature of this turbulent financial period is becoming more the norm, as markets reel at the latest financial scandal, regulatory blunder or other apocalyptic economic earthquake (example: Google “2012 pension america” and you’ll see what I mean).

So, what to do? Well, if you didn’t yet know this, during the last Great Depression, more millionaires were made (rather, they made themselves) than at any other time in the western world.

Why is this? Simply put: there were some people who understood that the old ways of doing things clearly no longer worked, and they found new ways of achieving the results they wanted.

Spin the clock forward to today, and we have a much larger version of the same basic idea: things have changed in the economic atmosphere. (Let’s push the analogy further, and say that the atmosphere is a new gas).

The biggest single shift that has been occurring over the last 30 years or so is the advent of technology.

For example, did you know, now anyone can learn how to do Forex trading? All you need is some time to learn the skill, some software, and some cash to get started.

And that’s just a tiny, tiny example: think of the number of daily online transactions that occur, if you can. The numbers are simply staggering.

So where does that leave you? Will you have a job in 6 months, or not?

Will you be able to maintain your current standard of living in the face of ever-increasing taxation that is the fallout of the government bailouts?

Do you want to do anything about it or not?

Should you learn how to get to grips with the skills that are needed now, before your job disappears?

Only you can evaluate your answers. But one thing is clear: you can’t afford to ignore what is happening, and hope that it will all go back to how it used to be, because it won’t.

The economic paradigm shift is just revving its engines, and isn’t even off the runway yet.

So make sure you take action, and get educated sooner, rather than later.

MainStreet Marketing Machines (MSMM) is explained above by Mike Koenigs, in which he shows how you can use his video marketing system for offline businesses.

In fact, Mike has set up his latest training, software and system, so that if you are an internet marketer who wants to connect with offline businesses in your area, you now can. It’s an very comprehensive package that will be a deal-maker for many struggling offline businesses for years to come.

I’m purchasing Mike’s system & will report back soon, once I’ve been using it for a while.

By the way, if you want to find out more about this system – click on the link on the video above, or this link here.

Don’t get me wrong – making money on the internet can be a big challenge (as my family knows all too well!).

Over the last two years since discovering the leverage the internet can offer business, I’ve mainly been focussing on two distinct ways of generating income:

– helping small businesses get online

-learning the skills of internet marketing to gain money for my own business.

It’s the latter which promises the most leverage. Of course, if the whole economy was based online, traditional “brick & mortar” business would collapse through lack of custom. And in many cases, face-to-face transactions are still far better than their online equivalents.

What the internet is currently offering literally millions of people is a million ways to earn a very decent living, without being tied down to a traditional employee/employer relationship and all the hassle and poor pay that is invariably commenplace across so many sectors.

Plus, if you become very successful at what you can do, you can decide how you want to spend your time, and with whom.  And reading the menu from left to right becomes a luxery few can afford in such uncertain times.

In my case, the great allure is to be able to organise my life around my children, rather than the other way around.

In fact, I’ll be bold enough to say that I’m not interested in the million bits of paper one iota. I don’t want the million bits of paper (or their equivalent in my bank account).

What I really want is to be able to make a difference in the world. To be able to help fulfill the dreams of others, my children included.

I believe we only have one life. I want to make the most of it. To bring something of eternity’s breath into our frail but beautiful world.

How about you? Tell me your dreams & realizations below.
