On November 19 2009,I joined around 1500 people from all over the globe in the Paris Hotel, Las Vegas, to meet with other entrepreneurs and receive training from internet marketers at the top of the industry.

Jay Kubassek’s story is the original reason I was there – watch highlights of his stirring talk and call to action below.

To my left, Jay Kubassek, and on my right, Liz & Aaron Parkinson, at the Las Vegas MME event 2009. Liz had been on stage sharing along with another spouse (Michael Force‘s wife, Delilah) about her side of the business equation, being married to Aaron…it was pretty powerful, raw & honest stuff. Sometimes people forget that behind all the pezzazz and glamour of an event like this is a long history of struggle, pain, and unbelievable hard, sustained effort.

Most businesses fail for a small cluster of reasons – but two of them are lack of team and lack of vision. Jay, Liz, Aaron, and many of the original team they spearhead at the Vegas event have huge vision, fantastic team, and outstanding leadership.

I’ve been involved in entrepreneurial activity for long enough to know the real thing, and I bet both Jay and Aaron have shared many tears with one another as well as the smiles. These guys are outstanding in their vision, passion and commitment.

Want to know how to build a recession-proof Business online?

I admit the intro to the video is a bit on the mad side, but the point is that many people are burying their head in the sand, believing the madness that the economy will somehow emerge out of this period of instability into something resembling the former carefree days many employees took for granted.

Most financial analysts worth their salt know that this just isn’t the case.

So what are you going to do?

For starters, if like me you’ve suffered from Lone Ranger syndrome in your life or business, you need to buddy up – to network – with people who have learned the skills of true networking and, in the case of business, entrepreneurship.

As this is primarily a marketing blog, it’d be a fair guess that you might have more than a passing interest in how to make money online.

I tried many methods to generate an income, but let me be clear about this: very, very rarely can anyone grow a successful business on their own, offline or online.

I dread to think how expensive that lesson was for me, but now that I’m part of a team of entrepreneurs who know what the stakes are, I understand that being a team player isn’t just a nice idea, it’s a must.

If you’re running a business (offline or online), you’re probably only too aware of the power of having a great team, and how it can transform situations, financially and personally.

So how do you find a great team?

Great teams only come about by great leadership, and great leaders are only great leaders if they know how to serve their team. All the most inspiring and memorable leaders have demonstrated this quality throughout the ages.

Why do I bother talking about this?

Well, I’m looking to partner with people who inspire others, and who have higher goals in life than to just make money online. Money, after all, only has any meaning in the context of relationships and how it is used to benefit those relationships. Any attempt to elevate it beyond that status risks the forfeiting of what really counts in life.

If you don’t want to be a Lone Ranger, but you’re looking to walk this incredible journey of life with others who have already trod the rocky tracks ahead, sign up in the opt-in box above, and I look forward to getting to know you in person.

Dez Futak.

I’ve recently been reading a very practical book entitled The Psychology of Success , by Judith Leary-Joyce.

I got quite enthusiastic about the book when I read the subtitle: Secrets of Serial Achievers, and what Judith has written is at the same time inspirational, and very practical -especially in the practical exercises liberally scattered throughout the book.

My only criticism (and perhaps that’s a back-handed compliment to her thoroughness) is that it’s sometimes a bit too systematic, with checklists and score-cards appearing in several places.

But the book is unequivocally endorsed by the head of HR of two large corporations (one of which is T-Mobile) and a psychiatrist, and it does contain some very unique angles. Such as:

  • Understanding your personal gravity
  • Discovering your life alignment curve

Whilst some skeptics might dismiss this as dressing up simple ideas into something bigger, just to sell a book, I’ve found lots of nuggets in the book so far, and I’ve been doing series of videos on YouTube which you can watch over on my YouTube channel, or just click on the videos below (if the videos aren’t there when you read this post, it’s because I’ve not yet dug for the specific urls as I’m writing this blog entry on my phone).

With the above caveats in mind (and who knows, Judith might not be analytical enough for you, if you’ve ever done full-blown Myers-Briggs tests or similar), I do endorse the book as one to add to your library.

Oh, by the way, you can see some mindmaps & also get access to a 7 page report about one of the chapters by clicking here:

At the time of writing, it’s very much a work in progress -but let me know if you find it useful.

Lastly, in case you haven’t yet realised, I joined a new business venture back in August of this year, which I see very much a culmination of the internet marketing I’ve been involved in since starting up online in April 2008.

If you’re wanting to gain real success in your business venture online, or you’re looking to join a top online community of entrepreneurs, I unreservedly endorse the company I’m partnered with.

The story of Jay Kubassek & Aaron Parkinson is one worth knowing: how they came from relative obscurity, to creating one of the most dynamic online internet marketing communities within the space of a couple of years. Jay’s background as a farmer & then car muffler salesman, and Aaron’s as a bouncer -are testimony that anyone with enough desire for change can escape the slavery of modern poverty that so many are becoming increasingly entrapped by.

Did it cost them lots of time and money? You bet. And probably lots of sleepless nights as they broke free from the chains that hold so many back from becoming truly financially independent.

What’s special about their story is that instead of just making themselves wealthy (which they will be quick to tell you would’ve been far less hassle and a lot easier), they decided to form a community where anyone who wants to have the opportunity to do what they have done, can tap into a nurturing training environment which provides an unmatched resource-base alongside teachers who are in the top 1% income bracket online.

Both Jay & Aaron continue to market their business themselves, so they know how things change as the changes happen.

Above all this, they knew that traveling this journey together has made all the difference. Since joining in with what they’ve created, I know exactly what they mean, and exactly what to do to make it happen in my life as I walk with like-minded entrepreneurs into the biggest opportunity in the history of the post-technology age.

As Aaron himself points out: if two teenagers can make a living online, anyone can. It just takes guts and persistance.

I’ve been actively doing Internet Marketing in several niches since January 2009, and more recently am in the planning stages of my own products and membership sites development. Depending on when you read this article and your views, that might be a short, or a relatively long time. As a teacher with 15 years experience, I strongly believe in passing on what I learn – apart from helping others, it also helps gel my own understanding (it’s the best way to learn many would suggest!).

I’ve found that the best time to begin teaching what I’ve learned is immediately after I’ve mastered it – the major advantage is that I can connect with my learners’ minds in a much more understanding way. So I’m much more likely to know what the struggles, pitfalls and stresses of my students are. In the ever-changing rules of what makes for effective and successful internet marketing, I’m able to pass on ideas that work today.

  • Over the next few months, I’m running a free, 7-part mini-course called Internet Marketing101 (IM101).
  • If you’re new to internet marketing, or you’re struggling to get to grips with some of the less straightforward aspects of running effective pay-per-click campaigns, then you should definitely consider doing this course.
  • Or, if you’re more experienced and you want to know more about how to do market research for your particular niche without having to spend huge amounts on specialized software tools, then IM101 has something to offer you too. Sign up below & be the first to get the inside scoop.

Yes Please! Send me details of how to get access to Internet Marketing101

In the mini-course, you’ll find out:

  • how to set up Google Adwords, Yahoo & Microsoft Paid Search
  • how to decide between using PPC & PPV
  • why long-tail Keyword research can save you thousands of dollars
  • how to set up an affiliate account
  • 18 ways you can tailor your advertising campaigns
  • what’s the best free resource you can use for generating long-tail keywords (hint: it’s not Google!)
  • about a simple trick to use Amazon to help pay for your Google Adwords campaigns (and I know no-one else is doing this!)
  • how to use Twitter, Facebook & Youtube properly (and find out how I nearly got it all horribly wrong!)
  • why you should invest more in your own personal development much more than in your technical skills
  • where to find the best outsourcing
  • My rolodex of key free & paid resources that I use in my internet marketing

The content will be delivered via email over a period of a few weeks as time allows – I’ve got a business to run!

But I want to make the mini-course something that you can tap into anytime, and it will contain video how-to’s and more, which will be your’s to download & keep/pass on to others as you see fit. The only thing you won’t be able to do is sell it to anyone else, as I’m making it free of charge.

Why am I willing to do this?

The simple answer is obvious to anyone who’s been around in the internet marketing world for a while: if you benefit/like from what I have to offer, you might be interested in my main business, or recommend me to your friends/business associates – and that’s what networking is all about 🙂

I could charge for the mini-course, but to be honest, I’d rather offer something for free, and get lots of feedback from my users, which is worth way more than a few thousand dollars. If the course is very successful, I might make into a paid course down the line.

Fill in the form below & I’ll email you the first session:

This might end up just being for a bit of fun, but I’m constantly on the lookout for smart ways to attract traffic, I admit!

I’m launching a new url shortening service over the next few days, and I’ll be interested to monitor how effective the advertising space will be at generating traffic/leads & also possible revenue.

I’ll keep shtum about the details just for now, for obvious reasons, but as soon as it’s out of beta, you’ll get a chance to test drive.

What could it offer than existing services like bit.ly don’t already provide?? Well, that’d be telling, but it will have a few bells & whistles some url shortners lack.

I have to be honest though: I’m more wanting to see whether or not it provides a useful traffic boost for my primary business .

More news soon.

What should you do to avoid the slide into poverty through forced redundancy?

How will you manage your debt when your income looks set to become uncertain?

These and many other questions are undoubtedly being asked by many people today across the United Kingdom, as the official figures released by the government  show how fragile and unstable our current economic model has become in the face of the global economic metropolis that we are now all part of.

The biggest question each one of us needs to answer is: what will I do to avoid the increasing likelihood of long term poverty, the likes of which we haven’t known since the 1940’s and 1950’s?

The only viable answer, as I’ve previously blogged, is to become financially independent through entrepreneurship. The illusion of a guaranteed job for life was shattered a long time ago, but now we are faced with the distinct possibility of there being no real jobs of any economic value for many of us.

What are you doing about this dilemma?

If you don’t have a plan B yet, get one now.

Educator, Entrepreneur & Astronomy Buff

Many thanks for dropping by. This Marketing Blog is for anyone looking for information about effective internet marketing, internet business skills development, and understanding how a turn-key internet marketing business can operate un-affected by the global economic instability we currently face.

If you’re a serious entrepreneur who wants to make a difference to their family or society around them, you’ve come to the right place.

If you’re just looking on how to make money with little or no effort, you’d best go back on the internet now and get duped by get-rich-quick Google Ads.

Yes, you can become financially independent, within 12-18 months if you really want to, but it won’t be without effort.

Having cleared that out of the way, I want to encourage you to do your due diligence, and research the options that are best for you.

This is a marketing blog, about internet marketing, about the business I run.

If, on the other hand, you want to find out what’s going on inside my head, click here.

Best regards,

If you’ve started out in a home-based business, chances are that you may have come across an ad on the internet, or perhaps you were prospected by a family member or friend.

So, you sign up to an MLM or Network Marketing opportunity. You go on some training which encourages you to call friends & family, make a list of people who might be intersted in the company or business that you’re involved with.

And so on.

Don’t get me wrong – these strategies do work. There are many people I know in the MLM industry where I live here in the UK who make it work very well.

The issue is: as a methodology for marketing, they only work for some people. What do I mean by this?

Well, many (myself included) started out with a Network Marketing company with the idea that there would be alot of interest amongst the people we know.

The main issue though, is that we weren’t necessarily given the understanding of the difference between marketing and advertising.

Even today, many MLM marketing strategies are much more advertising than marketing.

Let me explain the difference.

Advertising is a vehicle through which marketing operates. But effective marketing runs deeper than this.

Marketing is much more to do with connecting people with products at a deep, even subconscious level.

If you’ve read any books on this, you’ll understand what I mean.

If you’ve been involved in any kind of business, offline or online, you’ll know full well that people connect with products at a primarily emotional level.

Even though I know this, I still operate in this way. Except the difference now is that I’ve learned where my pause button is.

Ok, let’s get back on track: I’ve said that there is a difference between advertising & marketing, and that in many traditional MLM opportunities, there is no clear distinction between the two.

Even if there is, the training may well remain with the mechanics or processes of marketing. The needed emphasis of marketing principles – why people do what they do – is often lacking.

Any business though, needs to find its voice in the cacophony of possibilities that shout so loudly. This is one reason among many why so many businesses fail, and why so many network marketers give up.

Without an effective marketing strategy and on-going training that is built into a marketing framework, the average home business owner is doomed to failure.

If you want the best chances of success, you need to a turnkey marketing & training system that takes care of this huge barrier to entry for many would-be home business owners.

Here’s one that I’ve found that really works:
